Faculty Opportunities for Funded Internet Research

2011-12 FACULTY FELLOWSHIPS

Berglund Fellow Mike Geraci creates digital stories of trash.
We are funding three fellowships this year.

Sandra Pelham Foster, Occupational Therapy: Investigation of the Use of Mobile Technology in healthcare clinical education. This investigation would support the development of innovative methods for facilitating the reflective education process form students enrolled in courses while in fieldwork.  It is applicable to the development of the new OTD curriculum to be offered in August 2012.

Nancy Neudauer, Mathematics: Directed Reading is a strategy to help students learn to read mathematics.  Reading mathematics independently is difficult, and many students are never expected to read mathematics on their own before college.  In this project I extend my earlier research to more current internet and online resources, which make implementation of Directed Reading more feasible.   I am interested in how these internet resources can affect the way that we and our students communicate, teach, and learn mathematics.

Michael Geraci, Media Arts: Dotted Landscape is an interactive, online project that seeks to analyze our relationship to where we live in light of the detritus we leave behind. Over 100 unique pieces of roadside trash will be documented and geo-located on a Web-based map that can be explored by the user. A set of digital stories will be created for the litter that seeks to understand its presence in our lives. Specifically, this project will ask the questions:  What is the story of our trash? What does our trash say about us? And, what do we want to say about our trash?
