FACULTY - STAFF OPPORTUNITIES

Interface on the Internet

Deadline 15th of Each Month

Our online journal, Interface, will begin its fall publication schedule in August. We publish 10 issues a year. We are proud to announce our new offer of $100 per published submission. See the latest issue of Interface.

We welcome submissions on any aspect of the Internet, including gaming, social networking, legal issues, ethics and health.

Submissions can be peer reviewed using a standard double-blind peer review process. We cannot, however, pay for these articles due to costs associated with the review.

For more information about the submission guidelines, process, and specific solicitations, see the Interface Call for Submissions.

2010-2011 Fellowship

Deadline March 15th

Each year the Berglund Center funds up to three research projects of the staff and faculty of Pacific University. Our Berglund Fellows produce research that they would not have otherwise had the time or funding to undertake. Application are due March 15th, 2010. Find details for submitting proposals on back.

All projects are related to the use of the Internet. Past Fellows and their works can be found described at Fellowship Projects, or see the Guidelines for a Berglund Fellowship Proposal.

STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES

Berglund Center Award for Excellence in Internet Research

Deadline Early March

Each year the Berglund Center is pleased to honor one graduating senior from Arts and Sciences with the Award for Excellence in Internet Research, and we need the help of faculty to identify students who may qualify.

We require the research project to be the student's Senior Capstone, and it must examine the impact of the Internet or its use in some way.

Applications or recommendations will be due March 2010 with the award presented on Senior Project's Day. The student will be awarded $250 and have a version of their final paper published in Interface.

Berglund Student Internship

Open until filled

The Berglund Student Internship Award will be for $1,250 per year, distributed evenly over two terms. It is awarded to one student each year and is renewable for four years. This is a unique award for students with interest, experience and ability with the Internet, electronic materials, or online applications. Students will undertake, help create, and research various projects at the Berglund Center. It is an opportunity for a student to pursue research or projects on topics related to the internet that may be of personal interest to them. Former Interns have found this experience to be a good resume building experience.

Project outcomes would include:
1) Publication in Interface, the Berglund Center's on-line journal
2) A presentation of materials to the campus community
3) A commitment of up to 5 hrs per week in the Berglund Center

Student Employment Experience

The Berglund Center is always looking for bright, self-motivated students who can bring innovation and creativity to our programs. We offer both paid positions and course credit, and we are able to employ students with or without work-study. We annually employ about 15 students who usually find employment immediately after graduation. See the Open Positions for more information.

Teach In China

Deadline November 1st

We also annually send several graduating students, with a variety of majors, to China to teach English. Additional information can be found at our Teach In China homepage or by contacting Jeffrey Barlow, Director, or Nicole Nowlin, International Administrative Assistant.
