Welcome to TransPacific Interactive Classrooms

Welcome:
The TransPacific Interactive Classroom (TPIC) is an internet based project distributed between Pacific University and Wenzhou Medical College (WMC), in Wenzhou, China. The two schools are sharing classes on line in real time utilizing off-the shelf Internet Protocol based applications. An additional class was shared between the University of Hawaii and Pacific University.

This project permits English majors at Wenzhou to take classes from Pacific. We are now in our fourth iteration of classes and continually developing appropriate pedagogy and applications.

The project began in 2004, when the Berglund Center for Internet Studies at Pacific University received an NWACC proof-of-concept grant to establish IP-based interactive classrooms shared with Wenzhou Medical College (WMC), Wenzhou, China. With the the success of the proof-of-concept phase, the Berglund Center continues to host these pan-Pacific courses.

Because the initial issues were largely technical ones, the materials at this site deal with the techniques and applications we used to develop our approaches. At present, the issues are increasingly pedagogical ones, and we will be publishing reports on appropriate pedagogy as the project continues to unfold.

We are always interested in additional partners for TPIC courses, and welcome inquiries at barlowj@pacificu.edu
