Steven Wax

Steve Wax is the author of the best-selling work Kafka Comes to America. Steven is an Oregon attorney who headed Oregon's Federal Public Defender Office for 25 years. He volunteered with the Federal Defender Office to represent seven of the prisoners held in the Guantanamo Bay detainment camps. Wax earlier defended Brandon Mayfield, the Oregon convert to Islam, who was falsely accused of a role in the Spanish train bombing. His talk will focus upon the erosion of civil liberties generally and in electronic communication in the Bush administrations. The Berglund Center Roundtable series will start off the new semester with Martin Ringle, the Chief Technology Officer at Reed College in Portland, Oregon. He will reveal what Reed learned from the Kindle Pilot Project, where a number of students were given a Kindle DX in lieu of Textbooks.
